Daily reading and prayer

Friday 28 – Proverbs 18:24  A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

Lord God you are our friend. We cry out to you and you answer us. We hold out our hands to you and you hold us fast and close. Grant us love for each other binding us together with cords strong and true. Honour all our friendships by blessing them with your spirit, for the sake of your son Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Thursday 27 – Proverbs 27:9  Oil and perfume make the heart glad, and the sweetness of a friend comes from his earnest counsel.

Father God, as much as the fragrance of spring is upon us, and the sweet nectar rises on the cold air in the mornings. We thank you that we have friends we can turn to for comfort. Friendship is instantly recognisable – it’s a kind of loving, a touch of a hand, a smile, or just a word. All textures woven together rolled into one. Let our friendship be a pledge of our faith in you.

Amen.

Wednesday 26 – Proverbs 22:17  Incline your ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply your heart to my knowledge.

Jesus, hear our prayers today. Speak to us and teach us how to listen to you. Fill our hearts with your grace and our mouths with your words. Almighty and everlasting God help us to remember that whatever we say and do today we do it for you.

Amen.

Tuesday 25 – Proverbs 28:27  Whoever gives to the poor will not want, but he who hides his eyes will get many a curse.

Open our eyes gracious saviour to see what is needed. Instead of giving up things this lent let us reach out to those in need. Giving, instead of wanting, helping instead of hiding. Changing lives of others for the better. As you gave the life and love of your son Jesus for us, let us do likewise and give out our love to others as you have taught us to do.

Amen.

Monday 24 – Proverbs 16:3  Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.

Our Heavenly Father please give us the commitment to our work today. Bring unto us the correct judgement of words and tasks we will be undertaking. Striving to do the best we can do.  Seeking the faithfulness and diligent of your plans. Completed plans at the end of this day with compassion and love.

Amen.
